- Alta uses the official 61-square board from the original W. D. Troyka package.
- On each turn, place a new diagonal switch of your color or toggle one of your own switches to the opposite diagonal.
- Blue connects top to bottom; Red connects left to right.
- Winning connections may use switches of either color, not only your own.
- You may not place a switch in the three spaces next to each enemy goal node.
- If one move creates both winning connections, the moving player wins immediately.
